I started a wordpress weblog recently called “sketching about” to capture some of my sketchbook and art journal activities as a visual blog. After a couple of months, the time and place defined drawings, paintings and posts seemed to be the kind of specific background I have wanted to add to the main website for some time. The main body of www.peterdickison.com serves as a more permanent gallery and source for my work and exhibitions; a weblog fills in the week-to-week activities that describe the regular work that is necessary for an artist.
I have always kept sketch journals. I encourage my students to do likewise. The informality of a journal enables the artist or student to think freely and describe that thinking graphically.
The blog/journal begun under the peterpainter nom on www.wordpress.com continues here within my website. I hope it elucidates for the reader something of the creative process.
